New parents know that the joy of parenthood comes with sleepless nights and a whirlwind of overwhelming responsibilities. It’s a life-changing transition that can bring a mix of emotions – elation, excitement, and, sometimes, feelings of sadness or anxiety that may signal postpartum depression.
Our panel of experts shed light on the challenges new parents face, offer practical strategies for caring adults supporting new parents, and answer your questions. This session is a must for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and anyone interested in family mental health.

Chemyeeka Tumblin, MSPH, LMFT,PMH-C, CD
Chemyeeka Tumblin is a person passionate about creating change within communities of color, aiding in increasing access to quality care services within the mental and behavioral health fields and ensuring, through sharing her own story, that no one feels alone on their healing journey.
She is a public health professional and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose work centers on birthing communities. Her work within maternal child health on the local level led to her pursuing becoming a full spectrum doula and now advocating for maternal health nationally. As a Black Woman navigating the healthcare system she has experienced first hand both biases and racism which (along with some other life experiences) resulted in her creating PositivelyMyeek. It’s her platform for sharing resources and providing education around mental and reproductive health, as well as opening up about her own life experiences.
Wendy Lias, MSSA, LSW
Wendy Lias, MSSA, LSW is a therapist at The Postpartum Stress Center, with a dedication to making the journey into parenthood less solitary. Wendy holds a graduate degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University. Firmly believing that learning does not culminate in graduation, Wendy has done post-graduate training in perinatal and postpartum distress, substance use disorders, and several evidence-based therapeutic treatments. She is a Certified Compassionate Bereavement Care Provider. She has worked with people of all ages in a myriad of settings ranging from inpatient to community-based crisis response. Wendy offers a safe and non-judgmental space for her clients to heal through therapy.
Susan Weinstein, JD, Moderator
Susan Weinstein, JD, Co-Executive Director, has been primarily responsible for programs and finances at Families for Depression Awareness since 2012. Susan was diagnosed with depression in her teens and has drawn from her personal experiences to inform FFDA’s curriculum. She has worked in nonprofits and local government throughout her career, generally in a non-legal capacity. She holds several volunteer positions, including serving on the Executive Committee and as Governance Committee Chair of the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention and holding a variety of elected and appointed seats in her town government since 1992. A native of South Florida, Susan is a graduate of Wellesley College and the Boston University School of Law.
