Families for Depression Awareness recently participated in the 19th Annual Rosalynn Carter Symposium on Mental Health Policy. "Twenty five years ago, we did not dream that people might someday be able to recover from mental illnesses and today it is possible," stated Rosalynn Carter. "For one who has been in the mental health field as long as I have, it is a miracle. It is an answer to prayer for many people."

This year's Symposium provided participants with a strategy for implementing recommendations from the final report of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. The Commission was established by a presidential Executive Order in April 2002, and was the first comprehensive study of the nation's mental health system since 1978.
