Dr. Aaronson is the director of clinical research programs
at the Sheppard Pratt Health System.
Since more than a third of patients with affective disorders do not respond
to initial medication trials, effective treatment is a common problem. After
two or three medications have failed, a patient may be considered treatment-resistant.
What therapy approaches are there for those who have tried multiple medications
and experienced little results? How effective are these therapies? Dr. Aaronson
discusses how various medication classes and psychotherapy can be helpful
in improving treatment-resistant depression.
